Chapter 8: Blog: Post #3
Explain the technology or concept
Web 3.0 is the next level of the Internet. There is some debate as to if we are already at Web 3.0, rather than Web 2.0, as suggested. Web 1.0 concentrated on building the Web, making it accessible, and commercializing it for the first time. The main focuses were on protocols such as HTTP, open standard markup languages such as HTML and XML, and Internet access through ISPs. Web 2.0 was used for sites such as Social Networking, Wikis, and communication. Web 3.0 is considered to be "the intelligent Web". Ubiquitous Connectivity will be used with Broadband adoption, Mobile Internet access, and Mobile devices. Web 3.0 will use intelligent applications, such as natural language processing, machine learning, machine reasoning, autonomous agents, etc. It will also use Distributed databases (aka "The World Wide Database").
Share your thoughts about the topic. For example, if it is a new technology, product, company, etc., do you think it will be successful for the long term or be trendy and quickly fade away? If there are differing opinions about the future of something, which projection do you agree with? Make sure to explain why you feel the way you feel about any stance you take.
I feel that Web 3.0 (the intelligent web) will be successful and trendy in the long term. I agree with those who believe that we have already evolved to Web 3.0. A good example of Web 3.0 is IBM Watson (Semantic Web 3.0). This is an example of Machine Learning, since it is linked to the Internet, and used to process large amounts of data very fast. I feel this way because IBM Watson (Semantic Web 3.0) will definitely be part of the future. It has a lot of potential use with businesses. It can process information with natural language, and return the results almost instantly. This can be used for retrieving medical information, retrieving legal information, customer service, etc. I believe we are already in Web 3.0, especially since we already have "smart" devices connected to the Internet. There are Smartphones with Siri, Computers with Cortana, Smart TVs, Smart Streaming Devices, etc. There is also Amazon Alexa, which can access information, play music, order products, turn on and off lights, etc. This is done through the Internet by processing natural language.
