Chapter 4: Blog: Post #2

What changes do you consider most important, most surprising, and most influential?
I feel that the most important, most surprising, and most influential, aspects of the Internet are the Internet of Things (IoT).  IoT is the evolution of the web because the Internet is being utilized in ways that were previously never imagined.  Some of the ways that the Internet is being utilized are for Cloud Computing (PaaS, SaaS, and IaaS).  Big Data is also obtained from the Internet, with companies like Google and Facebook.  There is a mission for many large corporations, and start-ups to utilize IoT, and incorporate it into our daily lives.  Wikipedia defines the Internet of Things (IoT) as the following:  “The internet of things (IoT) is the internetworking of physical devices, vehicles, buildings and other items - embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity that enable these objects to collect and exchange data.”  This will influence the way we interact with information and physical items via the Internet, as well as engage in commerce.

Choose one topic that interests you.  Make a prediction about the state of the topic ten years from now.
One topic that interests me is the Internet of Things (IoT).  Some examples of IoT are as follows:  Vending machines that communicate when items are out of stock, medical alert watches to track health, One-Button Product Purchases (Amazon Dash Button), and speakers to access music and data on the Internet (Amazon Echo).  I feel that Amazon is clearly leading the way in which people locate information, and engage in commerce.  The Amazon Dash Button uses IoT, and it is a cleaver new way to order items quickly and easily.  This makes purchasing items easier than going to a brick-and-motor store, going on-line, and using an App.  The Amazon Dash Button makes it easier to purchase items from Amazon.com, than on their own website!  The Amazon Echo also uses IoT, and is another novel way to access information, and make purchases.  Some of the many things that people can do are the following:  Obtain the current time, set a wake-up call, obtain the news, play music from the Internet, etc.  People can also purchase items from Amazon.com with the Amazon Echo.  I feel that some of the more advanced things that people can do with the Amazing Echo are use it to turn on and off lights and appliances, call an Uber, etc.  The Amazon Echo is almost like Apple Siri on steroids!  I believe that IoT will definitely pave the way for how people interact with physical items, and do business.  I predict that ten (10) years from now, everything will be connected using the IoT.
